My only complaint is the fairly dated interface – I would welcome a spruced up, leopard-friendly set of icons and buttons. That said, if my only complaint is a visual one, it’s certainly an indicator of an application with an excellent feature set.

The net is a distributed place, and our information strategies and routines should embrace that distributedness. In practice however we often end up in various silos and walled gardens, because they are so very convenient to use, although they actually decrease our own control and/or introduce single points of failure. If your Facebook account gets suspended can you still interact with others? If your Google account gets suspended, do you still know how to reach people? Using Gmail also means all of my stuff resides on servers falling under the not very privacy sensitive US laws.
You will not have to scroll to search for a specific mail, the mail steward’s database will take care of everything. It will also make sure that none of your mail is lost.

Once your e-mail is in the database, it can be retrieved by specifying any combination of: rc = [plistFile replaceOccurrencesOfString:@”Minute\n45″ withString:junk options:NSBackwardsSearch range:NSMakeRange(0, [plistFile length])]; If MailTags are imported, they will be translated into MailSteward tags. The MailTags Project tag becomes the MailSteward Category tag. MailTags Keywords become MailSteward keywords. MailTags Notes becomes MailSteward notes. And the MailTags Priority becomes the MailSteward priority. The MailTags iCal To Do and Due Date tags are not imported. MailSteward will archive all of your email in a database for easy retrieval. Click on the Archive Email button and MailSteward will go to work storing copies of all your email text, HTML, attachments, and raw source, into a relational database file. MailSteward has a wealth of features for importing, tagging, saving, and exporting, including the ability to export your vital email information to a number of standard data formats. Whoever made the final decision at Apple about how this works, deserves a life sentence in User Interface prison. How many users are adversely affected by this? I don’t know. Probably no more than a million. Steve Jobs would never have let this pass. Save the raw source of the selected e-mail. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a good backup of their emails and as a search tool for past e mails too. Apple has a new thing now called notarization. You send your application away to Apple to be notarized. They check it out and send it back notarized, which is one more level of assurance to users on top of the code signing that already exists. It is not required to do this, but presumably it will be required some time down the line.
